Nowadays, Formula 1 drivers Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc do battle in the biggest racing competition in the world.

It hasn't always been like that, however, as they have locked paths before on their long journey to the pinnacle of their sport.

Footage has emerged from the 2012 WSK Euro Series, which shows the two reacting to a crash they were involved in out on the track.

It appears that Leclerc, now with Ferrari, had attempted to overtake Verstappen, currently of Red Bull, during the race. However, in doing so, he had pushed his rival off the track, which meant Verstappen loss the lead.

The frustration on the Dutchman's 14-year-old face was clear to see.

"It's just unfair," he exclaims. "I'm leading, he wants to pass me, he pushes me, I push him back.

"And then he pushes me off the track. It's not fair huh?"

Leclerc, also 14 at the time, did not seem to bothered about the clash.

When approached and asked what had happened with Verstappen, he simply responded, "Nothing. Just an incident out on the track."

Whoever was to blame, it was Leclerc who come out of it best.

He went on to win on the rain-soaked track in Sarno, Italy. Verstappen was only able to come in down in seventh.

Nowadays, both are up-and-coming stars in F1, and both look set to fight for World Championships in the future.

Verstappen already has some considerable experience under his belt, even at just 21 years of age, with this campaign already his fifth in F1.

He also holds the record of being the youngest ever driver to win an F1 race after triumphing in Spain in 2016.

Leclerc, meanwhile, is in his second season at the top, although he has been a test driver for Ferrari and others on previous occasions.

In Bahrain, he became the second youngest driver to qualify on pole, but he was unable to convert that into a maiden victory, eventually finishing in third after struggling with an engine problem.
