Hellen Obiri made an addition to her impressive medal collection after she won the IAAF Cross country championships gold in Aarhus Denmark.

The 5000m world champion, Africa champion and Commonwealth champion won the title at 36mins, 14secs. Leading from gun to tape, Obiri had to contend with Ethiopians who was stuck side by side throughout out the 10 kilometers race.

She would later pull her famous final kick and outsprinted the rest in the final meters. "It was a very tough race, The steep hills and sharp descents were very challenging, but I knew I had one job to do and win the gold medal," said Obiri.

The world 3000m indoor champion is also the National cross country champion and an Olympic silver medallist. "I really wanted to win the Cross country medal as it was the only one missing in my collection and this was the right time and I achieved my target.

Obiri said that she will not be taking part in the Cross country again.

"This was the toughest race of my career, the hills and obstacles meant there was no time to rest, It was a very sweet victory, but that is enough of cross country running for me". Hellen noted that she will rest and then focus on the IAAF world championships in Doha Qatar that will be held in October this year.
