Lucas Digne's tweet about his 'foul-throw' for Phil Jagielka's goal vs Arsenal

Everton’s resurgence under Marco Silva continued today with a well-deserved 1-0 win over top four hopefuls Arsenal.

In truth, the scoreline flattered Unai Emery’s side who were passive and lacklustre from the first minute until the last.

Everton were the polar opposite, pressing like animals and showing some neat touches and speed when going forward.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave Arsenal’s centre-backs a torrid afternoon, with Bernard impressing out wide once again.

And the man behind the Brazilian, Lucas Digne, was once again brilliant and it was his long throw that setup Phil Jagielka’s winner.

Shortly after the goal, pictures started doing the rounds on social media appearing to show Digne’s foot over the line before he threw the ball.

However, Twitter user Lars Hendel has correctly pointed out that part of Digne’s foot was on the line, which means the throw was legal.

He cites FA law 15, which reads: “At the moment of delivering the ball, the thrower must have part of each foot on the touchline or on the ground outside the touchline.”

And Digne himself has replied to the post, rubbing some salt in the wounds of Arsenal fans along the way.

The former Barcelona man wrote: “When you loose and you have nothing to say 😂😂😂.”

Aside from the spelling mistake, the Frenchman is pretty much spot on.

The FA’s rules mean the throw was legal and Arsenal kind of have no leg to stand on when trying to contest the goal.

Had the likes of Shkodran Mustafi and Nacho Monreal actually been switched on when it was hurled into the penalty area, the goal could have been avoided.

Arsenal are still yet to keep a clean sheet away from home in the Premier League this season, which is quite remarkable given their position in the table.

Four of the Gunners’ last six league games are away from home as well…
