Batista has retired from professional wrestling after losing to Triple H at WrestleMania 35

Batista wrestled his final match against Triple H at WrestleMania 35

Legacies were ended at WrestleMania 35, as two former world champions wrestled in their final matches for WWE.

One we already knew about, as Kurt Angle announced weeks ago that he would take his final bow at the Show of Shows, and he put over Baron Corbin in the process.

But what we didn't know at the time last night was that Batista's match with his mentor Triple H would be the last time we see The Animal lace up his wrestling boots.

The build-up to the No Holds Barred match hadn't taken away from any other huge matches on the card, and with no physical interactions between the pair before April 7, fans were looking forward to seeing the pair battle one last time.

In truth though, despite it being a good, hard-hitting match, the fact that WrestleMania had been going on for six hours by the time they got into the ring meant the atmosphere wasn't as good as it should have been.

There was a hilarious spot in the match where Triple H ripped Batista's nose ring out with a pair of pliers, gruesome and funny at the same time.

And after Batista got involved in his 70th birthday celebrations, Ric Flair made an appearance ringside to assist The Game, handing him his trusty sledgehammer to help him finish off The Animal.

Batista makes his final entrance as a WWE superstar at WrestleMania

One Superman Punch-esque shot with the weapon, followed by a Pedigree, was enough to put away his opponent, and unbeknownst to everyone at the time, end the career of Batista.

Following the conclusion of the show, Batista took to social media to thank the fans before officially confirming his retirement.

Six world title wins, two Royal Rumble victories and a number of huge WrestleMania main events and matches, Batista will now continue to conquer Hollywood with his in-ring career done.

Happy retirement, Dave!
