Prince Naseem Hamed believes Tyson Fury is the best heavyweight

The heavyweight division is becoming one of the most exciting but complex competitions in the world of sport.

There are a huge number of great fighters who all have the opportunity and privilege to be able to fight each other. However, much to the dismay of all its fans, getting the best to fight the best seems like an impossible task.

Supporters received just a glimmer of what could have been with the Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder fight. Fights like that could happen five times a year but have instead become scarce.

At the moment, Dillian Whyte is yet to be matched with one of the elite fighters as he deserves, the highly anticipated unification match between Wilder and Anthony Joshua looks to be prolonged for another year and now even the rematch between Fury and Wilder has been put on hold for the time-being too.

The fight between AJ and the Gypsy King is better left untouched as people are beginning to question if the fight between these two great British fighters will ever happen.

Between all of the heavyweight elites, former featherweight legend Prince Naseem Hamed believes that one in particular beats all the rest.

“In my eyes, Tyson Fury has proved himself in amazing fashion,” he told iFL TV.

“For me he’s gone over to the States and basically proven that he is world class. After coming back the way he did come back, I ain’t really seen any heavyweight in a long time do what he did. All credit goes to him.

“I actually find it hard to see anybody right now who’s a heavyweight beating Tyson simply because he showed against the WBC champion (Deontay Wilder), the gunslinger in my eyes, one of the hardest hitting men in the heavyweight division.

“For me he (Fury) won that fight clearly and I think a lot of people thought that he won that fight. It sealed it for me (that he’s the best). And that’s why in regards to Anthony Joshua I feel the same (that Fury would beat Joshua). For me Tyson Fury is at the forefront and he’s proved that he’s the best heavyweight alive today.”

He concluded with the most sweeping of statements: “I’ve got Tyson Fury beating any heavyweight alive today.”

This, though, cannot be determined until the elites actually fight each other on at least one occasion. Fans around the world will have to wait patiently as they have done for this long-standing argument to be determined in the ring.

All we do know at the moment is:

May 18: Deontay Wilder will face Dominic Breazeale in Brooklyn.

May 25: Oleksandr Usyk will fight Carlos Takam in Maryland.

June 1: Anthony Joshua will fight Jarrell Miller at Madison Square Garden.

June 15: Tyson Fury will face Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas.

July 13: Dillian Whyte is scheduled to fight against a yet to be decided opponent in London

Whilst all of the above promise to be great fights, they are simply not the fights that supporters have been craving to see for over a year now. The only way to prove Hamed’s statement would be a momentous rematch with Wilder or historic fight with Joshua.
