We all remember the underwhelming fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr just under four years ago, but fewer may recall Mayweather’s recent match-up against Tenshin Nasukawa in Tokyo on New Year's Eve 2018.

Nonetheless, Mayweather’s former opponent is set to follow a similar path as Mr. Money after he too signed a deal with the Japanese company Rizin.

Rizin are the mixed martial arts organisation responsible for making Mayweather's exhibition fight with kickboxer Nasukawa.

The outcome was more conclusive than anybody could have imagined, and the fight was not one that will live long in the memory. Mayweather easily beat Nasukawa in the first round of the boxing match that looked embarrassing at times for the 20-year-old.

Pacquiao, though, could face the same fate and fight the kickboxer in the ring after the Japanese fighter also recently signed a new deal with Rizin.

Pacquiao and Mayweather are more than civil with each other post-fight and have recently run in to each other on several occasions at various NBA matches and shared a laugh or two.

Rizin's chief executive officer Nobuyuki Sakakibara revealed the surprising new deal on Monday by posting photographs on Twitter of the 40-year-old signing a contract.

"I'm here in the Philippines," wrote Sakakibara, per Sky Sports.

"RIZIN.15 will have this man involved in a way. We will be ready to announce as I get back to Japan!"

He would elaborate no further and failed to specify in exactly what capacity Pacquiao would be involved in the event scheduled for April 21.

Pacquiao's last fight was a unanimous decision victory over American Adrien Broner at the beginning of 2019.

Nasukawa’s last match was in kickboxing as he defeated Federico Roma with a quite incredible cartwheel kick in the third round. There will be no kicks of any kind if the youngster goes up against Pacquiao in a similar circumstance to the Mayweather fight.
