Diego Costa's often controversial career hit its lowest point on Saturday evening. The fiery striker was handed the chance to shine for Atletico Madrid in a potential La Liga title decider away against leaders Barcelona. However, instead of taking the game to the Blaugrana while keeping a lid on his temper, Costa embarrassed himself by picking up a straight red card for dissent.Dismissals of that kind are extremely rare, but referee Jesus Gil Manzano wrote in his report that Costa twice told him: "I s**t on your wh**e mother."Manzano also wrote: "Once sent-off, still on the pitch, he grabbed my arm to prevent me from showing yellow cards to his team-mates No 24 [Jose Gimenez] and No 2 [Diego Godin]."

Diego Simeone could be seen shaking his head after Costa was dismissed and the Atleti manager has not even tried to defend his striker in the aftermath.

And the incident could bring an end to Costa's career in the Spanish capital.

According to the Daily Mail, sources have stated that patience with the 30-year-old has worn thin and the club are now preparing to listen to offers for him in the summer.

If Costa does pick up an eight-game ban from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Wednesday, that red card against Barca could be his final act in an Atleti shirt.

It would be a sad way for him to end his second-spell with the club, but you can understand their stance on the situation.

January arrival Alvaro Morata has started to hit form alongside Antoine Griezmann, with Costa also guilty of missing a number of games through injury.

He's only appeared in 21 of Atleti's 41 games in all competitions, managing just five goals.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague revealed on Eleven Sports that Costa was found crying in the changing rooms after the incident.

Balague says: "Diego Costa was found crying in the changing room, apologising to his teammates and said 'I didn't say what was reported I said'."

Sadly for Costa, it seems as if Atleti have had enough.
