The Premier League title race is going to go right down to the wire.

As things stand, Liverpool hold a slender two-point advantage over Manchester City as the end of the season approaches.

But the Reds have played one more game than the reigning champions, so it’s still in Man City’s hands.

It’s very possible that the title will be decided on May 12, the final day of the 2018-19 season.

Liverpool host Wolves on that day while Pep Guardiola takes Man City to Brighton.

For a neutral, it would be great entertainment to watch. The coverage, as the Premier League trophy hovered in the sky without a destination and Jeff Stelling went mad delivering updates on Soccer Saturday, would be incredible.

But spare a thought for Liverpool and Man City fans. That would be an extremely stressful experience.

Van Dijk: Man City have been amazing

The fans can play their part in helping their teams by showing support but it’s largely going to be left to the coaches and players.

But in Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool have a defender who they can feel confident in as the pressure mounts.

Van Dijk has been incredible this season, jumping to the top of the queue where the best centre-back in the world is concerned.

The Netherlands international has opened up on the battle Liverpool find themselves in and he admits that Liverpool have been unlucky to come up against an ‘amazing’ side in Man City.

Asked if this could finally be Liverpool’s year, Van Dijk said, per the Evening Standard: “Hopefully. That's the only answer I can give you. Everyone is dreaming of it.

"The unlucky bit for us is some other team in the league has been amazing as well.

“For a neutral Premier League watcher it's a great view, its nice to see two good teams challenging for the title.”

He’s right. Liverpool and Man City have both been incredible this season.

Both have already surpassed the 80-point mark and they’ve combined to win 51 out of 65 matches.

But Van Dijk will be fully aware that, despite his and Liverpool’s excellent performances, there can only be one winner.
