Eden Hazard has now scored more goals in the Premier League than Cristiano Ronaldo

Eden Hazard. Wow.

The Belgian produced an outstanding display on Monday night as Chelsea defeated West Ham 2-0.

Hazard scored both goals, the first a delightful solo effort that will live long in the memory, to enhance his claim to be the best player in the Premier League.

That’s a status that Jamie Carragher can get behind.

After a first-half in which Hazard dazzled, the Sky Sports pundit expressed his belief that nobody is at the 28-year-old’s level.

“Before tonight I loved him as a player,” Carragher said, per football.london. “I think he’s the best player in the Premier League, and even more so now.”

Hazard has now scored 16 league goals this season, tying his personal best in a single campaign.

Hazard surpasses Ronaldo’s PL tally

And with 85 goals to his name in his Premier League career, he has surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally of 84.

Ronaldo scored 84 goals in 196 matches for Manchester United, while Hazard needed 240 matches to hit 85 goals.

The Belgium international has now tied Fernando Torres and Louis Saha’s tallies, while he trails Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp by two goals.

Hazard really has been an excellent servant to the Premier League since his arrival in 2012 and if this is to be his final season in England, Chelsea fans will remember him fondly.

In seven seasons, he has won two league titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Europa League.

The opportunity to play for Real Madrid may prove to be too difficult to turn down and Chelsea can at least comfort themselves in the knowledge that Los Blancos will need to pay a hefty fee to sign him.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri insisted after the win that the Blues want Hazard to stay, but that wish may be impossible.

“The club doesn’t want to sell him but we must all respect his decision I think,” Sarri said, per Premier League correspondent Kristof Terreur.

“He is in the last year of his contract. If he takes another decision then we have to respect it.

“We tried, but it is not easy.”

Chelsea fans should enjoy these next few weeks. It may be the last they see of Hazard.
