Danny Drinkwater was reportedly arrested on suspicion of drink driving on Monday morning after crashing his Range Rover into a Skoda.

This is according to The Sun, who claim Drinkwater had been at a party with 33-year-old lawyer Beth Mantel when he hit Emma Brown, 30, at approximately 12:30am.

The crash - which has been described by a source as "really nasty" - occurred six miles away from the Chelsea midfielder's home in Hale, Greater Manchester.

Debris was said to be scattered across the country road, while Drinkwater, Beth and Emma were all treated for minor injuries.

The source added: "Danny had been seen having a great night at the bar but it ended horribly. Pieces of the car he hit went flying.

"Danny's been partying like mad recently but hopefully this will be a wake up call telling him to slow down."

Chelsea have since released a statement, saying: "We are aware of reports but we will want to establish all of the facts before commenting."

Drinkwater's crash happened hours before Chelsea beat West Ham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to move up to third in the Premier League.

He had been at a charity event at an upmarket bar called Victors, where he was with Beth. Both declined to comment.

Cheshire Police said: "A 29-year-old man from Nether Alderley was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He is currently in custody assisting officers with their inquiries."

This is the latest in a series of lows for Drinkwater, who hasn't played a competitive game for Chelsea in 13 months.
