The Champions League knockout stages have not disappointed this season.

Real Madrid have won the competition four out of the last five editions, but were dumped out of the competition in dramatic fashion.

Los Blancos won the first leg of their last 16 tie against Ajax in Amsterdam, but were then beaten 4-1 in the return leg.

Another favourite for the competition, Paris Saint-Germain, were also knocked out of the competition early.

After beating Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford, Marcus Rashford scored a last minute penalty in Paris to send the English side through.

And Bayern Munich were also knocked out by Liverpool in another fascinating tie.

Going into the last eight, there are still some big clubs left in.

Barcelona, Manchester City and Juventus are perhaps the three favourites to lift the title in Madrid.

But there are also some surprise names still left, notably Ajax and Porto.

Their achievements look amazing when you compare the wage bill of every side left in the competition.

Unsurprisingly, Barcelona are top of the pile.

Lionel Messi is taking home roughly £500,000-per-week, while the likes of Luis Suarez, Philipe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele are also on high wages.

In total, Barca are spending £431 million in wages per-year, which is £135 million more than Manchester United.

The two teams will face off in their first leg at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Surprisingly, Liverpool are paying more wages than Manchester City.

Man City have spent a lot more in transfer fees in the past few seasons but Liverpool have had to tie their players down to lucrative contracts to prevent them from leaving the club.

Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur are in fifth and six, paying £229 million and £148 million respectively.

And after Spurs there is a dramatic drop to Porto and Ajax.

Porto are spending £75 million in ages, while Ajax are 'only' spending £47 million.
