Lionel Messi will go down in history as one of the greatest footballers to ever play the game.

He's won it all at club level and has often been the driving force behind much of Barcelona's success over the last decade.

On Wednesday evening, the Argentine will be looking to lead his side to another big win against Manchester United in the Champions League.

Barca travel to Old Trafford for the first leg of their quarter-final tie and it's one of the most anticipated games of the season.

The La Liga leaders are favourites to advance to the last four over two legs.

But anything can happen in Europe's elite competition and Man United will be looking to take inspiration from their win against PSG last time out.

However, dealing with the Blaugrana will likely prove to be a much tougher test, especially if Messi is up for it.

Ahead of kickoff, a graph that details goals and 'big chances created' in Europe's top five leagues has surfaced and it shows that Barca's number 10 is in a world of his own.

As you can see below, the x-axis is labelled 'goals' and the y-axis 'big chances created'. To be placed on the graph, players needed a minimum of 10 goals and 15 chances created.

In the middle of the graph, 20 stars are clustered together showing just how well matched most of the continents top players are. But way over in the top right corner, is Messi.

The Barca forward sits alone, way ahead of the rest, because he's scored 33 goals and created 33 big chances this season. No one else in Europe's top five leagues comes close.

Depending on how you read the graph and what you believe is more important, you could argue that either Eden Hazard or Kylian Mbappe have the second best stats behind the Argentine.

Chelsea's tricky winger has created the second most big chances in Europe, while PSG's young star has scored the second most goals.

Although who comes second can be debated, one thing certainly can't be and that's the fact that Messi is currently in a league of his own when it comes to scoring goals and creating big chances.
