Anthony Joshua has claimed that he would have preferred to fight Muhammed Ali rather than Mike Tyson as he would have made him look better.

The Hertfordshire-born boxer said in a recent interview with DAZN that Ali’s style would make them gel.

Commenting on The Baddest Man On The Planet, the former Olympic champion said that Tyson’s boxing style would not made him look as good.

The 29-year-old said, as per The Sun: “I would prefer to fight Ali rather than Tyson because I am a boxer fighter and our styles would gel.

“There was not much you could do with Tyson; he would not have made me look good because his style was so phenomenal.

“Ali was more of a boxer and he would have made me look better because our styles would have gelled.”

Joshua makes his US fight debut against Jarrell Miller at the impressive Madison Square Garden on June 1.

AJ had Wembley Stadium booked for this Saturday, but failed to reach a deal for either a unification fight with Deontay Wilder, or a bumper British bout with Tyson Fury amongst others following their draw in December.

“We need to put that tit-for-tat aside, realise where we both went wrong in negotiations and get it right,” said AJ about the failure to secure a fight in the UK.

He added: “People make decisions to suit themselves, in terms of the negotiations they didn’t align at the time and I realise that we have both said a lot to blame each other.”

Wilder will face a mandatory challenger of Dominic Breazeale on May 18; whilst the Gypsy King will fight Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas on June 15.

Joshua will put all of his belts on the line when he faces Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller at Madison Square Garden on June 1.
