It’s certainly been an eventful season for Jack Grealish. The 23-year-old was left disappointed after Aston Villa blocked a £25 million move to Tottenham last summer, believing the transfer would have increased his chances of being selected for England had he left his current employers. However, to his credit, Grealish has knuckled down and shown everybody why Spurs were so determined to sign him in the first place. The Birmingham-born midfielder loves Villa - he’s been with the club since he was six years old - so it was never going to be that difficult for him to refocus following his failed move to north London. And now he has an opportunity to help his beloved Villa return to the Premier League, with the club currently fifth in the Championship table with five games left to play.

Grealish, who made headlines last month after being punched by a Birmingham City fan before scoring the only goal in the same match, netted Villa’s winner against Rotherham at the New York Stadium on Wednesday night.

And what a goal it was, too.

Grealish began in his own half, showed brilliant footwork to deceive three opponents before drifting past another, playing a one-two with Ahmed Elmohamady and then producing a composed finish at the end of the move.

Watch it here…

Outstanding play from the former England Under-21 international.

It’s a goal that proves that he’s far too good for the Championship. He really should be playing Premier League football.

Grealish’s latest effort gives his stunning volley against Derby County a run for its money in the quality stakes.

Two very different types of goals but both technically brilliant.

If Villa fail to go up via the play-offs next month, it’s hard to envisage them holding on to Grealish this summer.

Tottenham may return for the playmaker - but if they don’t, another Premier League club - or several - almost certainly will.
