It's fair to say that Red Bull driver Max Verstappen did not have the best time during qualifying for tomorrow's Chinese Grand Prix.

The Dutch driver ended up finishing in fifth place thanks to a time he had set at the start of Q3.

However, it seemed he had hoped to put in a better performance to start higher up on the grid in the race itself.

Unfortunately for the 20-year-old, he was prevented from doing so due to a build-up of other drivers in front of him who slowed him down as he tried to build up speed ahead of his flying lap.

In the end, it cost him dearly, as he started his last effort two seconds too late for the time to be valid.

And it's clear that Verstappen was not at all happy with his rivals.

Talking to his team over the radio, he was enraged, saying, “Ah mate, f*****g hell. I'm finished right? They are such w*****s honestly. Everybody just lining up and they are just f*****g it up. You're just trying to be nice but everybody's just f*****g it up.'"

He was still intensely frustrated later whilst talking to Dutch television channel Ziggo Sport, even suggesting that he would pull a similar move on his opponents in future races.

"We were just staying neatly behind each other, but at a certain point Vettel passed me and the two Renaults as well.

"So they f****d up my entire build up, while there is an unwritten rule that you just follow each other. Whatever. From now on in qualifying I'm going to f**k them up as well."

But Vettel did not see the situation in the same way, arguing that he needed to overtake Verstappen for his own qualifying chances.

“We all left for the same spot and, if you are at the end of the train as I was, it was quite difficult,” he said.

"When the team told me we only had 10 seconds margin to cross the line in time to make another attempt, I had to think of something. I don't know if others were not told.

"If everyone would have sped up the way I did then we would have all made it, but I obviously prioritised at that point to make the lap. It felt like the others were not aware.”

In the end, Vettel ended up with the third quickest time as Valtteri Bottas took pole ahead of Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton in second.

The Chinese Grand Prix is the third race of the season, with a title race between Bottas and Hamilton already beginning to hotten up.
