American Zach Johnson is a two-time Major winner and one of the best golfers on the planet. But even at the pinnacle of the sport, it seems that comical errors can be made, as Johnson has proved at Augusta during the Masters. In a hilarious clip showing the incident, Johnson was going through his pre-shot routine on the 13th hole. However, he got far too close to the ball itself, and brushed it off the tee with his driver. The ball trickled to just two or three meters in front of him before coming to a halt.

Fortunately for Johnson, who won the 2007 edition of the tournament, he did not incur a penalty as it was a clear accident. He was allowed to take the shot again, eventually going on to make a Birdie.

Talking later on about the gaffe, he said: “That's a first. I thought I had done it all but now I know I've done it all. I actually hit a really good tee shot after that, so I think I recovered nicely."

His playing partners, Ian Poulter and Matt Kuchar, were also shocked, although the former admitted that he did not see what had happened as he was getting a drink out of his bag.

Despite the mishap, Johnson is positive that it was one-off, adding: “I don’t think I could do it again if I even tried.”

Johnson went on to just about make the cut, ending the second round on 1-over-par.

There is currently a five-way tie for the lead, with Adam Scott, Louis Oosthuizen, Francesco Molinari, Jason Day and Brooks Koepka all on seven-under after 36 holes.

However, it is the resurgence of Tiger Woods that has grabbed the headlines so far.

The 14-time Major winner has had a torrid time during the past few years, with his struggles well documented.

But it appears he may be back to somewhere near his best, with an impressive first two rounds putting him just one shot behind the leaders.

It promises to be an interesting weekend in the first major of this year's golfing calendar.
