Manchester United needed two penalties to scrape past West Ham 2-1 at Old Trafford.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side moved up into fifth after their unconvincing victory on Saturday night against Manual Pellegrini's men. They should have been 1-0 down after just 10 minutes when Felipe Anderson’s goal was wrongly disallowed for offside. And luck favoured the Red Devils shortly afterwards.Robert Snodgrass’ challenge on Juan Mata was deemed a penalty by Graeme Scott, with replays suggesting it was extremely soft.

Paul Pogba stepped up to put United 1-0 up.

But West Ham fully deserved their equaliser four minutes after half-time when Anderson finished from Manuel Lanzini’s cross.

The Hammers pushed for the winner and David de Dea needed to be at his very best to keep out Michail Antonio’s header.

Minutes later, United were given their second penalty of the match.

Anthony Martial was through on goal and was brought down by Ryan Fredericks.

Pogba stepped up again and won the match with 10 minutes remaining.

That penalty was United’s 12th in the Premier League this season - more than any other side.

It's also the most Man Utd have ever been awarded in a Premier League season.

The next best is Crystal Palace with 11. Bournemouth with nine are third.

United are now one point ahead of Arsenal in fifth having played an extra game.

But they still trail Chelsea by two points and Spurs by three points in the exciting race for the final two Champions League spots.
