Liverpool are doing everything they can to win the Premier League title.Manchester City still have the upper hand in what is turning into an enthralling battle - Pep Guardiola’s side will be champions if they win their remaining five matches. But Liverpool will become favourites if City slip up after they beat Chelsea 2-0 on Sunday. The Reds’ remaining fixtures are against Cardiff, Huddersfield, Newcastle and Wolves. Jurgen Klopp will be expecting 12 points.Man City, meanwhile, face two tough matches against Tottenham and Manchester United.

So while the title is in the reigning champions’ hands, it’s certainly not a foregone conclusion.

Much of Liverpool’s success has come as a result of their improvement at the goalkeeper position.

Alisson has tied De Gea's best season

Alisson Becker was signed in the summer and he’s made an immediate impact, helping Liverpool to the best defensive record with just 20 goals conceded.

And he leads the way with 18 shutouts, two more than Man City’s Ederson.

It means that Alisson has now tied David de Gea’s best tally of clean sheets in a single season for Manchester United.

The Spanish won the Golden Glove award after keeping 18 clean sheets in the 2017-18 season.

It seems very likely that Alisson, with four games still to play, will surpass De Gea’s best season.

However, Petr Cech’s record for most clean sheets in a single season - 24 - is safe for yet another year.

Klopp heaped praise on his £67 million signing following Liverpool’s win against Chelsea, claiming he ‘saved Liverpool’s life’.

Alisson denied Eden Hazard with a fine stop midway through the second half.

“There were 10 minutes when Chelsea changed their system and had their chances and Ali saved our life,” Klopp said, per the Liverpool Echo.

“Apart from that we controlled and dominated the game for 80 minutes which is the best you can say about a game against Chelsea.”

He’s undoubtedly been one of the best signings of the season.
