There is no doubt that there was an overwhelming sense of joy from sporting fans across the globe to see Tiger Woods back at the top of his game over the last few days.

Woods added another honour to his already glittering trophy cabinet by winning the 2019 Masters - his first major since 2008.

However, there will be one man who is a little more pleased than the rest following Woods’ triumph.

One lucky punter from America placed £65,000 on Woods to take home the victory while he was priced at 14/1 with William Hill US.

Woods kept his nerve during the last few holes, including birdies on holes 15 and 16, to win his first Masters since 2005 and secure the punter a tasty £1 million pay-out.

It became the largest pay-out for golf in William Hill’s history, despite only Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose being at shorter odds before the tournament.

The lucky punter clearly backed Woods, who delivered on the biggest stage, and the American spoke about the euphoria of his victory following the conclusion of the Masters.

“It's overwhelming, I think because of what has transpired,” Woods began. “Last year I was just very lucky to be playing again. The previous champions' dinner I was really struggling.

“I missed a couple of years of playing this great tournament, now to be winning it.

The Masters - Final Round

“It's unreal to experience this.

“My mom was here, she was here in 1997 as well, and she couldn't be more excited. I'm kind of lost for words to be honest with you."

Woods has been showing signs of rising back to the top of the sport he used to dominate and he also spoke of how he used those experiences to help him in Augusta.

“This is one of the hardest I've ever had to win, I think just because of what has transpired.

“I've had a chance the last two major championships, I applied what I learnt and managed to get there today.”
