Serena Williams is a good and long friend of Tiger Woods, and she has revealed that she could not contain her emotions during his superb final day.

Woods completed one of the great sporting comebacks yesterday after a back surgery some two years ago looked to have all but concluded his days of challenging and winning any golfing major title.

Yesterday, though, the 43-year-old went on to earn the fifth green jacket of his coveted career on the final day at Augusta. His performance was outstanding, his win was remarkable and his celebrations - moving.

These celebrations were the same ones that drove supporters and non-supporters of golf alike crazy and equally emotional to witness the sheer jubilation and years of pain shine through the American.

Woods started the final day two shots behind the lead, but finished two under par to reinstate himself and prove that he is still one of the world’s best.

Overnight leader Francesco Molinari's hopes sunk – quite literally - with two double bogeys in quick succession; he had to settle for a share of fifth on 11 under. The tide, it would seem, completely turned in Woods' favour on the infamous 12th hole.

After watching Molinari aim for the green and sink his tee shot into Rae's Creek, Woods decided to play a safer shot right down the centre of the green. This shot earned him a par that was applauded as if it were and eagle.

The triumph came just short of 11 years after his last major title at the 2008 US Open.

Williams, a good friend of Woods, couldn’t help but fleece her emotions as she admitted she burst into tears after Woods made the put on the 18th to win the Masters.

“I am literally in tears watching Tiger Wood,” tweeted Serena. “This is greatness like no other.

“Knowing all you have been through physically to come back and do what you just did today? Wow. Congrats a million times! I am so inspired thank you buddy.”

She wasn’t the only one to congratulate Woods either… in fact, huge names up, down and across America joined in unison to congratulate him on his tremendous triumph.

Presidents of current and former: Donald Trump and Barack Obama, major basketball players: Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry, and golfers too: Phil Mickelson and Jack Nicklaus all took to social media to commend Woods too.
