The latest UFC event saw not one, but two Fight of the Year contenders, and we're only into the month of April.

In the main event of the evening, Dustin Poirier once again defeated Max Holloway, this time for the interim lightweight championship to set-up a unification bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov, potentially in September.

And in the co-main event of the evening in Atlanta, another interim title was to be won as Kelvin Gastelum and Israel Adesanya went toe-to-toe inside the Octagon.

In a thrilling spectacle, 'The Last Stylebender' would take the middleweight title on a temporary basis after quite simply a dominating final round where he knocked down Gastelum several times.

At the post-fight press conference, Adesanya refused to field questions relating to light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who stated a few months ago that he wants a future fight with the New Zealander.

In a now-deleted tweet, Jones stated in the direction of Adesanya the day before his big fight: "If you think you killed 44 yr old Anderson [Silva], you didn’t.

"I’m not really sure what fight you’ve been watching. You got past the legendary GOAT, now come f**k with the King of the jungle. I’ll make you call me daddy by the third."

And when Adesanya stated he didn't want to talk about 'Bones', JJ had some words of his own the following morning on social media.

As noted by MMA Mania, deleted tweets by Jones stated that Adesanya only defeated a 'short, stubby wrestler' and that fans can 'believe the hype' because he doesn't see it.

Adesanya has now responded to Jones on Ariel Helwani's MMA Show at great length and has called Jones nothing more than a bully.

“Jon Jones, he literally just reminds me of what I’ve hated most in life, and that’s bullies,” said Adesana, per MMA Junkie.

“I’ve had them through high school, coming up. Literally he’s a jock, and he’s a c***. He’s picking the right time. He’s a smart boy. He knows I’m a challenge.

"Jon Jones likes to look for challenges because there’s a reason. He’s started all this. He’s the one that came out openly and called me out and said, ‘I’d like to fight Israel Adesanya.’

“He knows I’m a threat. But guess what, I’ve said this for so long: If you want to beat me, do it yesterday.

"Every f*****g fight I get better. I get better every fight. So if he wants to try to take me out early on when he knows I’m only a year in the UFC, and I’m still learning.”

With Dana White stating he would like to see the fight happen in the future, but not right now, the seeds are already being planted for an absolute super-fight coming in the next few years.

Both men have things to deal with in their respective weight classes, but if the hype remains around Adesanya by this time next year, we could see one of the biggest fights of all-time in the sport if he decides to move up to light heavyweight.
