Manchester City vs Tottenham: Five likely scorers to find the crucial away goal at the Etihad

The business end of the season has arrived and the fight for silverware intensifies as the Champions League contenders battle it out for a spot in the final four.

The all-English tie between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur is finely balanced with the Lilywhites ahead courtesy of Son Heung-min’s 78th minute winner in the first leg at Tottenham’s new stadium. The match was a tense affair with City missing a penalty and of crucial importance the ankle injury suffered by captain and talisman Harry Kane.

The England striker went down after a collision with Fabian Delph with what was later diagnosed as significant ligament damage, leaving the stadium on crutches and the rest of his season in doubt.

Spurs are sadly all too familiar with the absence of their captain, as this is his fifth ankle injury in two years, missing significant time earlier this season with a torn ankle ligament. It is not all doom and gloom, however, as Tottenham have won all five league games without Kane, most recently a 4-0 thumping of Huddersfield at the weekend.

Their opponents, City, have been a force of late winning 12 straight home games, scoring 49 goals in the process, meaning Spurs will need to find an away goal or two if they are if they are to make their first ever Champions League semi-final. They will have to do it the hard way as other star player Dele Alli is a doubt with a broken hand and GIVEMEBET looks at who might step up and take the north London side in to the next round.

Son Heung-min

Son helped to steady the ship during the captain’s absence in January, notching key goals against Watford, Newcastle and Leicester. The South Korean’s winner in the first leg was his second in the Champions League this season and his 18th of the season, second only to Kane’s 24 and will be vital for them to progress. Son is 3/1 to score anytime and 11/1 to score the first goal.

Lucas Moura

The Brazilian was key in the weekend victory over Huddersfield at the weekend, finding his shooting boots and scoring a hat-trick against their already relegated opponents. He now has 10 league goals this season for only the second time in his career, his best being 12 in Ligue 1 for PSG, while playing 10 fewer games. Moura is 7/2 to score anytime and 125/1 to repeat Saturday and score a hat-trick.

Christian Eriksen

The Dane has broken the 10-goal barrier in the past two seasons and currently stands on eight goals this year, netting recently in the 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace. He has already contributed a vital Champions League goal this season, scoring the winner against Inter Milan in the penultimate group match to help propel Spurs to the knockout stages, could it be his time again? Eriksen anytime scorer is available at 5/1.

Fernando Llorente

Given the start at the weekend, the striker was unable to get his name on the scoresheet and has struggled in the league this season. Having chipped in with goals on Spurs’ cup runs, he has seven total goals this season. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and it could be Llorente’s chance to become an unexpected hero and is 3/1 get a goal at any point in the match.

Jan Vertonghen

Ties like this can be tense and sometimes all it takes is a corner or a set-piece to decide who prevails. He may only have two goals this season, but the centre-back has scored in the Champions League this year, and if they need a goal, you could well find the big man up top and is a whopping 25/1 to find the net.
