Lionel Messi inspired Barcelona to a 3-0 victory over Manchester United at the Camp Nou on Tuesday night. The Argentine legend scored two goals in four second-half minutes to effectively kill the tie off.He continued to torment the Red Devils as the game wore on, although it was former Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho who netted Barça’s third and final goal of the evening. However, Messi was undoubtedly the star of the show. The 31-year-old produced yet another Man of the Match performance when it mattered, showing that his underwhelming display at Old Trafford six days earlier really was a one-off.

Messi broke the deadlock against United in the 16th minute, nutmegging Fred before finishing expertly past David de Gea from outside the box.

He then doubled his - and Barcelona’s - tally for the evening minutes later following a poor mistake from De Gea.

But the goals weren’t the only moments Messi caught the eye.

BT Sport showed a video of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s highlights and it’s a brilliant watch.

It features some angles we didn’t get to see during the match itself - and shows the speed at which he rinsed poor Phil Jones.

Meanwhile, BT Sport’s pundits were all purring after watching Messi’s latest masterclass inside the stadium.

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves said: “He was unstoppable.

"It’s one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen.

"The whole stadium got off their feet.”

His former United teammate Rio Ferdinand added: “Chris Smalling smashed him in the first game - it’s probably the worst thing that could have happened in that first game because they woke the beast up.

“A player of this ability… sometimes you’ve just got to say ‘he was too good’ and tonight that was the case.

“United fans will be disappointed but they’ll be able to say ‘I was there to see Messi perform at that level’.

Meanwhile, Gary Lineker, whose admiration for Messi is no secret, said: “He was fifth in the Ballon d’Or last year, I suspect he might be four places higher next time!”.
