Manchester United crashed out of the Champions League after a 3-0 defeat to Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Tuesday.Their quarter-final tie was finely balanced after Barca's 1-0 win at Old Trafford in the first leg but the return fixture was far from close. Lionel Messi scored twice inside the first 20 minutes to give the hosts a commanding lead. His first goal will live long in the memory too. He nutmegged Fred on the edge of the box and cut inside from the right wing to curl a shot past David de Gea. Trademark Messi. The Argentine's second goal was a gift from United's keeper.

After turning Phil Jones inside out, Messi had a go from long range with an effort that normally wouldn't have troubled the Spanish shot-stopper.

But De Gea made one of the biggest blunders of his career and let the ball squirm under him and into the back of the net.

Philippe Coutinho wrapped the game up with a wonder goal in the second half as United crashed out of the Champions League.

In doing so, they finished this European campaign with a rather embarrassing statistic.

In this season's competition, Marouane Fellaini was the only Man United player to score a goal at Old Trafford.

That's quite ridiculous, considering the midfielder left in January after the group stage and United went on to reach the quarter-finals without scoring at home.

And no, Luke Shaw's own-goal against Barca last week doesn't count.

Fellaini's lone home strike came in the 91st minute against Young Boys in the group stage - talk about cutting it fine.

It seems amazing that United got as far as they did in the competition with just one home goal, but they did manage to get the business done on the road.

Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford all scored away from Old Trafford in the group, while Romelu Lukaku and Rashford netted against PSG in the last 16.

Despite not playing free-flowing, attacking football in this year's Champions League, Man United reached the quarter-finals of the competition, which is further than many expected them to go.
