Tottenham are through to the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since the 1961-62 season following their dramatic victory over Manchester City in the quarter-finals.Mauricio Pochettino’s side will now face Ajax - conquerors of Real Madrid and Juventus - in the last four after going through on away goals on Wednesday night.Spurs lost the pulsating match 4-3 at the Etihad Stadium but qualified for the semi-finals thanks to Fernando Llorente’s controversial 73rd-minute goal. The ball appeared to go in off the Spaniard’s arm, via his thigh - but referee Cuneyt Cakir, according to reports, did not have access to all angles during his VAR review.Football fans are split over whether or not the goal should have stood. One ref has told Spanish media that Man City are now out of Europe because VAR wasn’t used properly. Others feel the goal was legal because Llorente didn’t mean to connect with his arm.

Regardless, it’s Spurs who will now take on Ajax over two legs for a place in the Champions League final.

But they will be without one of their Etihad heroes for the semi-final first leg.

Son Heung-min, whose first-half brace turned the quarter-final second leg on its head, is now suspended for the first game against Ajax after picking up a booking for tugging the shirt of Kevin De Bruyne shortly before half-time.

The South Korea international, though, only discovered that he will miss Spurs’ next European match after being informed of his suspension in a live interview on German TV.

Son was asked how he felt about his suspension and simply replied: “I didn’t know!”

Poor guy!

Son’s interview brings back painful memories of the incredibly awkward interview between Branislav Ivanovic and Geoff Shreeves on Sky Sports after Chelsea’s famous victory over Barcelona at the Camp Nou during the 2011-12 season.

On that occasion, Shreeves informed Ivanovic that he was now ruled out of the Champions League final. Not the semi-finals like Son, but the actual final.

Seven years later and it’s still so difficult to watch.

Cringe!
