After months and months of asking ‘can Manchester City do the quadruple this season?’ we finally have our answer.

No.

Pep Guardiola’s side crashed out of the Champions League losing on away goals to Tottenham after an incredible second leg at the Etihad.

Raheem Sterling’s injury-time strike appeared to send City through to the semi-finals only for VAR to cruelly rule it out due to Sergio Aguero being offside in the build-up.

The City fans went from ecstasy to agony in a matter of seconds.

Guardiola admitted he was ‘curious’ about the atmosphere inside the stadium prior to the game but he needn’t have worried.

The home fans generated an incredible noise throughout the 90 minutes and so nearly got their side over the line.

As a result, the City players want to thank them.

They’ve agreed to pay for 26 supporter coaches - one from each player - down to Wembley for the FA Cup final next month.

Captain Vincent Kompany said: “Travelling to so many games in league and cup competitions, both home and away, is not easy to do and is something that every player in our squad values and appreciates.”

“The support from our fans throughout the season has been nothing short of incredible.”

The club will provide further coaches if there is a demand for fans travelling down for the final against Watford.

City fans have often been mocked for their lack of attendance and atmosphere at home game this season.

And they were also criticised for failing to sell out their allocation for the FA Cup semi-final against Brighton at Wembley.

Maybe by paying for all of their travel, City fans will be encouraged to snap up tickets for the final…
