Ernesto Valverde thinks Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world without any doubt

Ernesto Valverde thinks Guardiola is the best manager in the world

Tottenham pulled off a shock midweek when they knocked Manchester City out of the Champions League.

In one of the best games in the competition's history, Man City won 4-3 on the night but it was Spurs who prevailed via away goals.

It marked another disappointing night in Europe for Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola won the competition three times with Barcelona, with his success leading to many labeling him as the best manager in the world.

However, his triumph in 2011 remains the last time he won the competition.

Guardiola has spent £756 million since leaving Barcelona seven years ago.

But he is yet to reach a Champions League final in that time.

His side's defeat against Spurs in midweek means City have now been knocked out in the Champions League quarter-finals in consecutive seasons.

Many have criticised Guardiola since he left Barcelona and that criticism only intensified after his side's Champions League exit.

Ernesto Valverde has a high opinion of Pep Guardiola

However, despite yet another failure in the competition, Ernesto Valverde thinks Guardiola is the best manager in the world 'without any doubt'.

"He is the best without any doubt," Valverde said of Guardiola in his Friday press conference, per Marca. "Regardless of whether he has fallen in the Champions League."

While there are a number of people that will agree, a number of other managers can also be considered contenders for the 'best manager in the world'.

Zinedine Zidane won the Champions League in each of his first three seasons at Real Madrid; a quite remarkable achievement.

Pep Guardiola hasn't won a Champions League since 2011

Jurgen Klopp has performed miracles at Liverpool, with the Reds currently challenging for both the Premier League and Champions League.

Mauricio Pochettino has worked wonders at Tottenham as he has turned them into a perennial top four Premier League outfit.

He has also managed to guide them to the Champions League semi-final this year.

And Jose Mourinho may have failed in his last role at Manchester United, but he has won the Champions League with two different clubs and been one of the best in the business in the past 15 years.
