Liverpool made light work of their Champions League quarter-final against Porto.

There was a feeling amongst football fans that Jurgen Klopp's men had secured themselves the easiest draw and with a 6-1 win on aggregate, it's pretty hard to argue with that assessment.

However, Liverpool still had a job to do and after securing a 2-0 win on Merseyside, there was still the potential for their Portuguese opponents to stage a comeback.

Porto started strongly in front of a home crowd, but Sadio Mane's opener at the Estadio do Dragao effectively put the game to bed and Liverpool helped themselves to three more goals.

As a result, Liverpool are now just two games away from reaching a second consecutive Champions League final and only Barcelona stand between them and a trip to Madrid.

Liverpool vs Barcelona

Given the astonishing form of Lionel Messi in particular, it certainly won't be an easy passage for the Reds and they'll be looking to avoid meeting the same fate as Manchester United.

If Liverpool are able to overcome the Spanish giants, they will face either Tottenham and Ajax - both of which have exceeded expectations - in European football's biggest game.

Calling a winner this season is proving incredibly tough and that's especially the case when you consider early favourites like Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are all out.

Liverpool are statistical favourites

However, that hasn't stopped people from trying to forecast the result and the renowned statisticians at FiveThirtyEight.com have crunched the numbers this week.

Using data sets collected throughout the season, they produce the probability of each team winning the prestigious trophy and seem to believe Liverpool are the most likely to win.

Their current simulation gives the Merseyside team a 36% chance of winning a sixth European Cup, while their nearest rivals Barcelona lag marginally behind on 33%.

Interestingly, Ajax are more fancied than Tottenham - check out the full graphic down below:

Over to you then, Liverpool.

Most football fans would agree that the favourites to win are either Barcelona or Liverpool, but separating the two European giants is almost impossible.

However, as the statistics indicate, Ajax vs Tottenham will also prove incredibly close and especially when you consider they're fresh from slaying Juventus and Manchester City.

As far as the numbers and general opinion is concerned, though, the biggest obstacle for Liverpool could transpire before the final itself.

Barcelona are desperate to win the Champions League after going four years without the famous trophy and watching their bitter rivals - Real Madrid - win the last three installments.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will have to deal with the pressure of being favourites and all alongside their battle for the Premier League trophy. It's going to be dramatic.
