Fans up and down the country eagerly await Gary Lineker’s tweet every Saturday in which he announces the Match of the Day running order.

Being shown first is always a joy if your side has won. Longer highlights, more in-depth analysis... it’s great.

But being shown at the very end can be frustrating. Highlights at this point are cut to just a few minutes and Alan Shearer’s analysis stretches to a sentence or two.

It’s usually the clubs in the bottom half of the Premier League that are shown towards the end.

Although Crystal Palace fans didn’t have to wait to watch their win against Manchester City in December, while West Ham’s win against Manchester United in September was also on first.

But which teams are on the most? Unsurprisingly, Liverpool have been the most popular team on MOTD this season.

The Reds, who are in position to win the Premier League for the first time, have been on first 12 times, while City have received top billing 11 times.

The Mirror have listed the most popular teams in the 2018-19 season - and it makes for grim reading if you’re a Wolves or Watford supporter.

Times teams have appeared first on MOTD

0 times | Wolves, Watford

It’s rather surprising that neither Wolves or Watford, who both reached the semi-final of the FA Cup, have been on first given how impressive they have been this season.

1 time | Brighton

2 times | Huddersfield, Fulham, Cardiff, Southampton, Burnley, West Ham, Everton, Bournemouth

Huddersfield’s appearances at the top of the running order came in 5-0 and 4-0 defeats to Chelsea and Tottenham respectively. Ouch.

3 times | Crystal Palace, Leicester

Both Palace and Leicester were on first after beating Manchester City.

4 times | Tottenham, Newcastle, Arsenal

5 times | Chelsea

6 times | Manchester United

9 times | Manchester City

With games against Tottenham and Man United in the final weeks of the season, expect Pep Guardiola’s side to be on first a few more times.

12 times | Liverpool

They’ve been great to watch and, with the chance of ending their long wait to win the Premier League, it’s hardly surprising Liverpool have been shown first more than any other club.
