Manchester City took a step closer to the Premier League title with a 1-0 win against Spurs at the Etihad, just days after their Champions League thriller.

Pep Guardiola’s side bounced back from their devastating exit on Wednesday to move back ahead of Liverpool by a point with just four matches left to play.

After the seven-goal thriller in midweek, it looked as though we were in for another goal fest after just five minutes.

Phil Foden, starting just his second Premier League match, opened the scoring after Bernardo Silva’s clipped cross was headed back across goal by Sergio Aguero.

But the home side didn’t have it all their own way in the opening 45 minutes.

Heung-min Son had two good opportunities but Ederson foiled him on both occasions.

Then, after 38 minutes, Kevin de Bruyne limped off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

With the form the Belgian has been in recently, it was a massive blow for the champions.

Spurs pushed for an equaliser in the second half and Dele Alli thought he should have had a penalty when Kyle Walker handled in the box.

But referee Michael Oliver waved away the protests.

In response, City fans will point to the first-half when Bernardo probably should have had a penalty.

If only we had VAR...

The pressure is now on Liverpool, who face a tough trip to relegation-threatened Cardiff on Easter Sunday.

Next up for City is the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Win that and the Premier League trophy will be within touching distance.
