Liverpool just won’t go away in this Premier League title race.Manchester City went back ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side on Saturday with a 1-0 win against Tottenham.Pep Guardiola and co. would have been tuning into Cardiff vs Liverpool on Easter Sunday hoping for an upset that would give them a massive advantage. And that looked a real possibility as the match edged towards the hour mark. But Georginio Wijnaldum’s thumping finish from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner put the Reds ahead. And they didn't look back from that moment on.

It was game over when James Milner scored from the penalty spot with 10 minutes remaining to make it 2-0.

But the award of the spot-kick has split the opinion of football fans.

Mohamed Sarah was being grappled by Cardiff defender Sean Morrison before the Egyptian went to ground.

The general consensus from football fans seems to be that Martin Atkinson was right in pointing to the spot.

But not in the eyes of co-commentator Gary Neville.

Salah has been involved in several similar incidents this season and Neville insisted that it was ‘never a penalty.’

That’s fair enough and Neville is entitled to his opinion.

However, Liverpool fans haven’t forgotten his comments on Sky Sports last season.

In the Merseyside derby, Dominic Calvert-Lewin went down very easily under Dejan Lovren’s challenge.

In truth, it was less of a penalty than Salah’s against Cardiff.

But Neville said this on the day: "Lovren's complaining at the end, he's whinging at the referee but I always think if you give the referee a chance and he did, and it's just those hands, and it's naive from Lovren, it's naive."

Understandably, fans are questioning the consistency of Neville’s opinion when it comes to soft penalty decisions.

Incidentally, Neville’s Sky Sports colleague and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was adamant that Salah's one against Cardiff was a penalty.

"The defender gets too tight," Carragher told Sky Sports. "Mo Salah makes the most of it at the end but is it a foul? Yes.

As a defender you can't wrap your arms around his neck. If that was me I would be thinking about what I was doing."
