Following WrestleMania 35, it's no surprise if the WWE's referees are feeling a little on edge. After all of the hype, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey took part in a winner-takes-all main event which saw The Man walk away with both the RAW and SmackDown Women's Championships.

FINAL CHAPTER

What fans will likely remember from that contest, however, is the botched finish.

It reportedly frustrated the WWE to the extent that they ended up fining the official in real life for the crucial error at the end of a historic contest.

While it could be harsh if it happened, botches and mistakes are bound to happen in the WWE - especially when the majority of the action is live and there's little room for error.

Whether it's the ring ropes breaking, Brock Lesnar almost snapping his neck in half following a botched Shooting Star Press or even Stone Cold Steve Austin breaking his neck courtesy of a piledriver in the middle of the ring - sometimes it's unavoidable.

This time, it was the referee against during The Shield's Final Chapter event on Sunday night.

The night revolved around Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. And rightfully so, as it was the last time The Shield would team up together with The Lunatic Fringe leaving the WWE.

BOTCHED FINISH

However, the big mistake came at the conclusion of the Intercontinental Championship match between the newest members of the blue brand, Finn Balor and Elias.

As you'll be able to see in the video below, the glaring botch came at the end when Balor looked to pin Elias following a Sunset Flip from the apron.

While it all looked like a normal pin attempt, it was an obvious three count and even the commentary believed it was a win for Balor.

However, the referee didn't allow it for some reason and there looked to be a moment of confusion in the middle of the ring.

Eventually, Balor locked in another pinfall to pick up a rather underwhelming victory.

While it was only a house show and, thankfully, not an episode of Monday Night RAW or SmackDown LIVE, WWE might still be unhappy that the video is doing the rounds.

Along with this, it's probably a good indication that Elias and Balor could be feuding moving ahead.
