Chelsea will be kicking themselves after failing to beat Burnley on Monday night, conceding twice from set pieces to draw 2-2.

The Blues finds themselves embroiled in a thrilling battle for the Champions League places alongside Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United.

If it wasn't for their inconsistency over the winter months, Chelsea may have already secured their place in the competition but wins are becoming a necessity as the end of the season approaches.

Their clash with Burnley certainly didn't lack entertainment either, with four goals in the opening 24 minutes putting the Chelsea fans through an emotional rollercoaster.

Jeff Hendrick opened the scoring for Burnley after just eight minutes, hammering a volley past Kepa Arrizabalaga after Chelsea failed to clear a set piece.

Chelsea 2-2 Burnley

However, the response was almost immediate and came from another moment of brilliance from Eden Hazard, who toyed with the Burnley defence before turning provider.

N'Golo Kante latched on to the pass and delivered a thunderous finish to defy Tom Heaton, moving him up to five goals for the season - the most prolific campaign of his career.

The comeback was completed by the 14th minute and this time it was Gonzalo Higuain who found the net, scoring just his fourth goal for the club by firing home via the crossbar.

Burnley weren't prepared to down tools after a second goal, though, and continued the manic start to the game when Ashley Barnes profited from another corner to level proceedings.

Chelsea in the top four race

The game finally fizzed out afterwards but Chelsea couldn't reach half-time without another blow as Callum Hudson-Odoi hobbled off injured and could miss the remainder of the season.

Both teams exchanged opportunities after the break, yet Chelsea struggled to produce a winner and decided to introduce Olivier Giroud in place of Higuain.

However, even their top-scorer in European competition couldn't provide a game-winning goal and the game finished 2-2 - prompting celebrations from Sean Dyche.

There was something of a sour taste left in the mouth when - minutes after Ashley Barnes and David Luiz clashed - a fracas unfolded around the Stamford Bridge tunnel.

The occasion also got to Maurizio Sarri who made repeated trips down the touchline and was eventually sent off, watching the final moments from the tunnel area.

Although a draw is certainly disappointing, Chelsea have moved up to fourth place but have played one more game than their Champions League rivals.

The Blues will have to hope results go their way and have three more matches to try and secure their place in Europe's premier competition.
