Ronnie O'Sullivan has crashed out of the 2019 Snooker World Championship after losing to amateur James Cahill in the first round. In what was expected to be a routine win for The Rocket, he fell to a surprise 10-8 defeat to the underdog, who was unsurprisingly and yet remarkably the first ever amateur to reach the event.O'Sullivan, a five-time champion himself, wasn't at his best, but nothing can be taken away from Cahill who has made a name for himself on the biggest stage possible.Going into the tournament, Cahill was a 500/1 outsider, and his odds wouldn't have been far off that just to beat the mighty O'Sullivan in the first round. However, after a sloppy performance from the veteran, it was clear to see the youngster realised there was potential for an upset.Being the first amateur to grace the prestigious Crucible table, you'd have expected Cahill to feel the nerves ahead of his showdown with the sport's greatest ever competitor. But, he concluded the morning session with a 5-4 lead, leaving O'Sullivan to ponder what was possibly going wrong, and who this amateur was.It was never going to be that easy, however, and O'Sullivan did muster up a comeback of sorts, pulling the game level at 8-8 and leaving the game in the balance. After being behind and coming back, the majority in attendance and watching at home would've felt there was only one winner from there, but one person didn't think that was the case, and that was Cahill.

He remained focused and got over the line, taking the win 10-8 and sending O'Sullivan packing in the first round.

“I’ve always believed in myself and I’ve always believed I can beat anyone,” said Cahill, who turned professional in 2013 before losing his tour card. “I’ve shown that today.”

One of snooker's biggest ever shocks.
