Wednesday night’s Premier League derby between neighbours Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford is a no-win situation for the hosts. If they win the match, they may have inadvertently handed Liverpool the title. The same applies if they draw.If they lose, however, they may have effectively handed City the title.Fans are split over what they’d prefer to see happen but there’s no doubt that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players are desperate to win the game, regardless of which of their rivals might end up being crowned champions next month.Just three days after producing one of the worst performances of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era - that dreadful 4-0 defeat away at Everton - the players and coaching staff are intent on bouncing back by beating Pep Guardiola’s men.

Liverpool fans, though, are hoping their fiercest rivals can do them a huge favour by preventing City from securing all three points.

The last thing United supporters want is for their players to give Liverpool, of all teams, a helping hand.

And they’re even keener for that not to happen after a video emerged reminding them of the time they required a favour from Liverpool towards the end of the 2009-10 season.

United needed Liverpool to deny Chelsea a victory at Anfield in the penultimate weekend of the campaign - but they were let down badly.

The first goal was a shocker.

Steven Gerrard’s awful back-pass was intercepted by Didier Drogba, who rounded Pepe Reina before sticking the ball in the unguarded net.

Frank Lampard then wrapped up a 2-0 victory for Chelsea with a 54th-minute goal.

The result left Chelsea one point above United in the Premier League table with one game left to play.

The banner above also made it clear that Liverpool fans had no desire to see their team help United in their bid to win another Premier League title.

Chelsea went on to wrap up the 2009-10 title in style seven days later, hammering Wigan 8-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Nine years later and United fans haven’t forgotten…
