It has been a big past few days in the race for the Premier League title.Manchester City held the advantage going into the final few weeks of the season but knew they could not afford any slip ups. They they had to get wins against both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the space of four days to make sure they stayed above Liverpool.Despite a poor performance by their standards, Pep Guardiola's side were able to defeat Tottenham 1-0 at the Etihad on Sunday.Phil Foden scored the only goal as City narrowly avoided dropping points.

And they made it the perfect week as they beat Manchester United 2-0 on Wednesday night, thanks to goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane.

That means with three games to go City have a one point lead in the title race.

The Manchester side have racked up 89 points, while Liverpool have 88.

It has been one of the best title races in Premier League history with both sides unrelenting in their pursuit of the title.

Whoever finishes second will finish with the highest points total ever to have not won the title.

In fact, if Liverpool win all their games and still lose the title, they would have accumulated the third most points ever from a Premier League season.

It's a shame that one of the teams will walk away without the title.

Gary Lineker sent the perfect tweet after City's win last night that summed up the brilliance of both teams in the race for the title.

He wrote: "Manchester City are a sensational side. The fact that Liverpool are only one point adrift of them is a huge achievement.

"Liverpool are an outstanding side. The fact that Manchester City are one point ahead of them is an enormous achievement.

"What a season."

Spot on, Gary.

Whatever happens in the last few weeks of the season, both sides deserves great credit for their performances over the course of the season.

Pep Guardiola also acknowledged both teams' success, saying after their win against United that both sides deserve the title.

""Liverpool and ourselves deserve the title as one," Guardiola said, per the Liverpool Echo.

"The team that is going to lose can't have regrets because they have given everything.

"Normally with this kind of derby victory you can it enjoy it the most but we have to be calm.

"We have to prepare well for all three games left.

"It's important to be calm. We are still not champions with three games left - it's incredible with the points we and Liverpool have.
