The PFA Premier League Team of the Year was announced on Thursday morning.

It's made up of six Manchester City players, including Ederson, Aymeric Laporte, Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling.

Liverpool are represented by four stars, Andrew Robertson, Trent-Alexander Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and forward Sadio Mane.

The final inclusion is a bit of a shock, as Manchester United's Paul Pogba takes a spot in midfield.

Of course, players from the two title chasing teams were bound to feature heavily, but there seems to be one very surprising omission this year.

Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

The Belgian winger has been on fire for the Blues and holds a number of records for the current campaign.

He has the most goal involvements in the league with 29 (16 goals and 13 assists), while he's also won the most Man of the Match awards, 13.

Hazard has also created 89 chances and 15 'big chances' - the second most of any player in both categories.

Along with his personal stats, the forward has also been his team's star man and Maurizio Sarri's side wouldn't be anywhere near the top four without him.

So it's quite strange that Hazard isn't in the Team of the Year and it's fair to say that Chelsea aren't happy with his omission.

Shortly after the team was announced, the club released a statement on their official website questioning why their star isn't involved.

"Eden Hazard did make the six-man shortlist for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, yet he has not been named in the PFA Premier League Team of Year for 2018/19 which was unveiled this morning," their article began.

"Our no.10 is enjoying an outstanding season full of eye-catching moments and his non-selection is being widely described as a surprise omission.

"Certainly his headline statistics from the current season cannot have counted against him when the votes were cast.

"Hazard is enjoying his best Premier League campaign to date when it comes to goals and assists combined, and indeed he tops the table for that total across the all the players at all 20 clubs."

As well as listing all of Hazard's achievements this year and opening describing his omission as a 'surprise', the statement concluded in blunt fashion, with a look forward to Sunday's PFA ceremony.

"Hazard will discover on Sunday if he is Players’ Player of the Year when the PFA’s individual accolades are handed out at an awards ceremony in London," the website read.

"His rivals for that are Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, and Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool. All five of those are in the Team of the Year."

It seems the west London club are quite bitter about this news to say the least. You can read Chelsea's statement in full here
