Liverpool fans were praying that arch-rivals Manchester United would do them a favour on Wednesday night in the Manchester derby. The clash at Old Trafford had been dubbed as the title decider for weeks. However, Manchester City brushed United aside 2-0 as they returned to the top of the Premier League with just three matches remaining. Many were suggesting that whoever was top of the league come Thursday morning would be eventual champions. With City having beaten Crystal Palace, Tottenham and now Man Utd in recent weeks, Liverpool now need either Burnley, Leicester or Brighton to get a result against City in order for them to win the league.

First up is a tough trip to Turf Moor to face Sean Dyche’s side on Sunday.

Burnley aren’t mathematically safe just yet but are on the brink after an impressive 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

And Liverpool are praying that Burnley can do them a massive favour and somehow take points from Pep Guardiola’s side.

In fact, they’re so desperate they will do anything.

That includes changing their social media profile picture in the hope that it will help.

YouTuber and Burnley fan Vizeh cheekily asked Liverpool fans to change their profile pictures to an image of Barnes laughing at Mateo Kovacic from Monday night’s game.

He wrote: “Oi Liverpool fans if you legit want Burnley to beat City this weekend?

“Make this pic of Ashley Barnes your profile picture for shithouse goodness, send me screenshots.

“If you don’t then well it’s your fault we lose innit

“RT to raise awareness.”

He probably didn’t expect it to go viral. But it has.

Vizeh’s request has been retweeted more than 1,500 times and his replies have been bombarded with Liverpool fans showing evidence that Barnes is now their new profile picture.

But omens may be on Liverpool’s side.

Dyche’s men have beaten the Premier League reigning champions in every season they’ve been in the top-flight.

That’s four previous occasions.

In truth, Liverpool fans don’t really care whether it’s Burnley, Leicester or Brighton who take points off City, as long as one of them does.

Because the chances of Klopp’s men finishing on 97 points and coming second to City is becoming more and more likely.
