Reports have emerged in recent days claiming Juventus are considering the future of head coach Massimiliano Allegri after the Italian giants were dumped out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Ajax last week.

Per Marca, the manager at the top of their wish-list is apparently Pep Guardiola.

The revered Catalan coach has a contract at the Etihad Stadium until the end of the 2020-21 campaign but has been unable to deliver the Champions League in his first three seasons with Manchester City.

Like Juve, City were knocked out of Europe’s premier club competition in the quarter-finals last week, going out on away goals to Tottenham.

City will of course stick with Guardiola, whose team are the narrow favourites to win the Premier League title ahead of Liverpool this season, but he will be under even more pressure to help the Citizens become champions of Europe for the first time next term.

Allegri, meanwhile, has already wrapped up the Serie A title with Juve - his fifth successive Scudetto since joining the Old Lady in 2014.

Despite Allegri’s role in bringing Ronaldo to Turin, Marca state that the potential arrival of Guardiola would be welcomed by the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

If true, Ronaldo has clearly forgiven Pep for blanking him at the 2012 Ballon d’Or ceremony back in January 2013.

As Ronaldo went to take his seat, he touched Guardiola shoulder and the two men briefly locked eyes.

But rather than greet the Portuguese superstar, who was still looking at the former Barcelona manager, Guardiola swiftly looked away and left the Real Madrid hero hanging.

It was an awkward moment that went viral on social media at the time. It also led to articles from various newspapers speculating why Guardiola had snubbed Ronaldo, such as this one from the Daily Mail.

“One can only speculate on the reason behind Guardiola's seemingly deliberate decision to ignore Ronaldo, though with the recent history in El Clasico gives a pretty large hint,” the Mail wrote at the time.

“Red cards, close games, touchline clashes, title clinchers and cup finals have all made the meeting of Spain's top two the most enticing of matches in world football.

“The look on Ronaldo's face told a story of bemusement, while Pep went back to soaking up the atmosphere.”

It was a disappointing night all around for Ronaldo, who saw Lionel Messi win his fourth Ballon d’Or that evening.

Ronaldo was only on one Ballon d’Or at the time - but, six years later, they’re currently level on five apiece.
