Whatever happens in the final weeks of the season, Liverpool can be very proud of their efforts.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have gone toe-to-toe with Manchester City for the title and are still in a position to be champions for the first time since 1990.

Liverpool are top after thrashing Huddersfield 5-0 on Friday. They’ve played one more game than City though.

Yet a trip to Burnley on Sunday could be a tough fixture for Pep Guardiola’s side.

It’s incredible to think that Liverpool may not win the league despite amassing more than 90 points.

The win against Huddersfield takes their tally to 91. No team has ever reached that number and not gone on to lift the trophy.

It shows just how impressive these two teams are.

More points than Arsenal's Invincibles

In getting to 91 points, Liverpool have now achieved more points than Arsenal’s unbeaten ‘Invincibles’ team of 2003-04.

That Arsenal side, managed by Arsene Wenger, finished on 90 points after winning 26 and drawing 12 of their 38 matches.

Liverpool have surpassed that points tally and they still have two games remaining on the schedule.

It’s an incredible achievement.

Liverpool also have 12 more points than the Manchester United side that won the treble in 1998-99.

So, while the season may end without a Premier League trophy, this Liverpool side should be mentioned as one of the best in recent history.

Indeed, Klopp believes his team is the ‘team of the season’ after four Liverpool players made the PFA Team of the Year.

“There could have been four, five, six or seven more involved," Klopp said, per BBC Sport.

"They played an outstanding season in so many moments. For me, my team is the team of the season anyway."

Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane all made the team for Liverpool, although the league’s top scorer Mohamed Salah can probably feel unfortunate to miss out.

Man City have six players included.
