Manchester United's lull since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed permanent manager of the club has been deeply concerning.

In the nine games since he was officially named as Jose Mourinho's successor, the Red Devils have lost seven times.

Even though they have faced Arsenal, Wolves, Barcelona and Manchester City in that time, that win ratio is simply not acceptable for a club like United.

Just like Mourinho's final months at Old Trafford, a lot of the focus has been on the dipping performances of Paul Pogba - who's been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

The Frenchman looked a man reborn under Solskjaer, but he's been heavily criticised of late amid reports that he is once again disrupting the dressing room.

There's even been calls from all over demanding his sale, but former Red Devils striker Dimitar Berbatov has labelled that potential outcome as a 'huge mistake'.

The Bulgarian told The Sun: “Why is Pogba the problem?

“They criticise some players more than others, which is unfair. You cannot escape criticism in one form or another - we all have phones and are on social media.

“Even if you are mentally strong the critics can get in your head. But when everyone is attacking you, we are all humans so it can affect your game.

“He’s not a robot, but if you don’t feel appreciated, what do you do? Go somewhere else.

“But leaving would be a mistake. I really hope Ole will tell Pogba he will build the team around him to give him the confidence to perform at his best.

“I have first-hand experience of how good Pogba can be when he trained with us as kid and he is a good boy as well.

“Pogba needs to know he has a player to cover his back, he needs to have the freedom to make decisive passes. It doesn’t matter if he makes mistakes as he is trying difficult passes.”

With Pogba at the top of his game, United are a different side and it's clear that he is a level above those around him.

But keeping such a mercurial talent happy and in form can prove difficult and it's such a huge test for Solskjaer to pass in his first months as manager of United.
