Haas driver Kevin Magnussen has called Lewis Hamilton's behaviour “completely unnecessary” following an incident during a practice session before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku. Both drivers were heading back to the pits at the end of FP2 when Hamilton attempted to overtake the Danish driver.Magnussen, however, had no intention of letting the Mercedes racer past him, and decided to cut the Brit off at the apex.As a result, the two cars brushed each other, with sparks flying from Hamilton's wing. And Magnussen was in no mood to back down during the post-practice interviews, leaving the blame fully at Hamilton's feet.

Talking to Danish newspaper BT, Magnussen said, per PlanetF1: "There was a yellow flag on that lap, and we’ve been told to abort our laps if there is a yellow.

“And then it was also the end of the session.

“So I don’t know why he was rushing so much.

“It was completely unnecessary.”

However, despite Magnussen's furore, he has not had much backing from others in the sport.

Sky Sports commentator Karun Chandhok said: “They were on laps. They were going slowly, just let him past.

“I don’t get why Kevin seems to get himself involved in trouble a lot in a free practice session when it really doesn’t matter.”

Whilst co-commentator and former F1 driver Paul di Resta added: “I think he’s taken it a little too far in practice.”

The two also had minor incidents earlier in the day, as can be seen in the below videos.

So far, Hamilton is yet to comment. He may have chosen to let his driving do the talking, as he looks to win a third consecutive race this season.

Magnussen, meanwhile, will be looking to improve on his average start to the year. He started with a sixth-place finish in Australia, but then ended up 13th in Bahrain and China since then.

Qualifying for the fourth meeting of the campaign will start later today in Baku.
