Harlequins prop Joe Marler was responsible for one of the funniest moments of the season during his team’s away defeat to Exeter yesterday. As he was waiting for the Chiefs to complete a box kick, his impatience with scrum half Nic White was overheard on referee Craig Maxwell-Keys’ mic.Clearly feeling that the Australian was taking too long, the 28-year-old angrily shouted, “You’re f*cking boring me, hurry up!”Suitably enough, White then immediately punted the ball downfield to carry on the match. The clip went down well on social media, with one fan describing Marler as a “breed of his own” and former Harlequins star Ugo Monye reacting to it with several crying with laughter emojis.Marler has emerged as a popular character in the Premiership this season and earned plaudits for his response to the homophobia controversy involving Israel Folau and Billy Vunipola earlier this month. He tweeted Folau a gif of two men kissing and Vunipola a photo of the England international being helped out of a nightclub during a night out.He was also on tongue in cheek form yesterday, responding to one Twitter user who said, “Marler going down “injured” every time the ref blew the whistle was pretty boring as well,” with a kissing emoji.

However, his insistence to keep the game going ultimately counted for nothing as Harlequins narrowly lost 17-15 to table-topping Exeter and slipped out of the play-off places into fifth.

Harlequins head of rugby Paul Gastard was keen to take the positives from the defeat, saying: “For me, this team lost 50-15 I think to this team last season and we are now coming down to their home and losing 17-15.

“So if they are the best team in the country by a yard - which they are - we are not far behind.”

At the very least, Marler gave the Harlequins fans watching on TV something to smile about.
