Southend welcome back defender Peter Gilbert into the squad to face Cheltenham.

Gilbert served the last of a three-match ban in the 2-0 victory at Oxford and should return to the starting line-up.

Centre-half Bilel Mohsni failed to make the New Year's Day squad and will face a late fitness test to see if he has recovered from an ankle injury in time for the clash with the Robins.

Goalkeeper Glenn Morris took his place among the substitutes following recovery from a damaged ankle but stopper Rhys Evans withstood a heavy assault from the Brewers and should continue between the sticks.

Defender Mark Phillips (hernia) is nearing a return to action but is unlikely to start.

Cheltenham boss Mark Yates will be without the services of Robin Shroot at Roots Hall.

The midfielder's loan spell at Whaddon Road ended miserably as an unused substitute in the 2-1 defeat to Wycombe and he has returned to parent club Birmingham after no agreement was reached to keep him.

Fellow loanee Shaun Jeffers has extended his loan from Coventry by a further month and he will be pushing for a start following another substitute appearance on Saturday, although Yates is unlikely to tinker with his side too much after what he described an "excellent" New Year`s Day performance despite the defeat.

The only injury concern within the camp is again winger Josh Low, who continues to struggle from a hamstring problem that has kept him on the sidelines for the past month.
