Manchester City showed that they really have a champions' attitude with a hard-fought win against Burnley on Turf Moor.Pep Guardiola's side weren't at their best but they ground out the result that puts them on the brink of the Premier League title.Sergio Aguero scored the only goal of the game to leave Man City a point ahead of Liverpool with two games remaining.Pep Guardiola was aware of the challenge that his side faced at Turf Moor, saying before the match: “It is always tough [because of] the way they [Burnley] play. They do really well what they do.”The reigning champions struggled to impose themselves in the first half. The zippy passes that City like to play was absent, with suggestions that a dry pitch affected them.

Indeed, the Manchester Evening News reported that City’s coaches were unhappy with the dryness on the pitch.

It didn’t help that Burnley’s players were really up for it. Ashley Barnes revealed on Friday that he had received a text from Jurgen Klopp saying he would sign the striker for Liverpool if he scored - and Barnes wasn’t the only one eager to impress.

It wasn’t until the second half that we began to see City apply consistent pressure and they should have had a penalty when the ball struck Barnes’ arm in the area.

That went missed and minutes later Tom Heaton produced a fine stop to deny Bernardo Silva.

But City's pressure eventually told and it was Sergio Aguero - who else? - who scored the first goal.

The Argentinian scored his 20th league goal of the season with a strike from close range, with goal-line technology proving that his effort did cross the line.

The ball did cross the line

Gabriel Jesus should have made it 2-0 in the 75th minute but Ben Mee kept out his shot after the Brazilian rounded Heaton.

But City weren't made to pay for his miss and they can now see the finish line.

Guardiola's team play Leicester at home and Brighton away in their final two league matches.
