Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele, Zinedine Zidane, Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho...

Naming football's greatest of all time - or the GOAT, as it's popularly known - all comes down to personal opinion.

Most fans reckon it's Messi, who has scored an unprecedented amount of goals for Barcelona and won every trophy possible.

The counter argument is that the 31-year-old has never won the World Cup with Argentina, nor the Copa America.

Pele and Maradona, on the other hand, both won the World Cup with Brazil and Argentina respectively, while Ronaldo won Euro 2016 with Portugal.

It all depends on how you measure greatness, whether it's individual ability or collective honours.

Picking a unanimous winner will never be possible, so Spanish newspaper Marca have taken it upon themselves to broaden the debate by naming the best players in history by country.

Messi and Ronaldo have inevitably been chosen for Argentina and Portugal respectively, but Pele's selection for Brazil is questionable.

While the 78-year-old won three World Cups and scored over 1,000 goals in all competitions throughout his career, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo were both incredible for Brazil, too.

Zidane, Paulo Maldini, Sir Bobby Charlton and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were also named the greatest for their respective countries, as you can see below.
