Ajax's 2018/19 season has been the definition of footballing fairytale.

In an era dominated by money and huge transfers, the Dutch side have made it all the way to the semi-finals of the Champions League thanks to their excellent academy and scouting team.

The likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Donny van de Beek have emerged from the youth setup and already look like genuine world stars.

Then you have Frenkie de Jong and David Neres, players that were signed for a pittance and will be sold for huge fees - De Jong has already been sold to Barcelona for €75m.

But the same cannot be said for the team's architect and playmaker, Hakim Ziyech.

Few players in Europe have been better than the Moroccan this season, with Ajax signing him from Twente for £11m in 2016.

Given that he is just 26, Erik ten Hag's side would normally expect to be able to recoup a huge fee for a player with 20 goals and 18 assists in all competitions this season.

But amazingly, Ziyech has a £25m release clause in his contract that can be trigged this summer, per Mirror.

In the modern day, that fee is ridiculously low and aside from Manchester City, which Premier League starting XI would Ziyech not walk into?

Even Liverpool have missed a midfielder with the Moroccan's creativity and eye for goal and he'd be the perfect replacement for Philippe Coutinho.

To sum up just how good Ziyech has been for Ajax in 2018/19, statistics website WhoScored have handed the Moroccan a rating of 8.50 for the season for his performance in the Eredivisie.

The closest player to him in the Dutch side's squad is top scorer Dusan Tadic on 7.92, with De Jong third on 7.52.

Even in a team littered with quality, Ziyech comfortably sits at the top of the pile.
