Reports in Portugal claim that Iker Casillas has been urgently hospitalised.

It's believed that the FC Porto goalkeeper suffered a myocardial infarction on Wednesday morning, but his condition is believed to be stable and not life-threatening.

Reports are understandably claiming that Casillas will not play for the remainder of the season and will be looking to recover away from the pitch.

Porto confirmed the news to TVI, but say the Spanish stopper is 'doing well' after being taken to the Hospital CUF in Porto earlier today.

The Independent reiterate that Casillas is believed to be 'out of danger' and that the health scare happened during a Porto training session.

The footballing world reacts

The sporting world has come out in support for the legendary goalkeeper who - according to Marca - was aided in his recovery by the insertion of a catheter.

Current Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois led the support, tweeting: "Strength @IkerCasillas," with a praying emoji at the end.

Loris Karius, who has been publicly backed by Casillas in the past, wrote: "Shocked about the news! Get well soon @IkerCasillas."

Wishing the best for Casillas

Support has also rained in from sporting names such as Rafael Nadal, Sergio Ramos, Claudio Bravo, Kasper Schmeichel and a number of football clubs.

Roughly translated from Spanish, Real Madrid released the following statement: "Real Madrid CF wants to transmit all their support to their beloved captain Iker Casillas.

"Iker Casillas has taught us throughout his professional career to overcome the most incredible challenges to enhance the glory of our club.

"It has taught us that giving up does not fit into our philosophy of life and has shown us countless times that being stronger the harder the challenge is, the way to achieve victory.

"Real Madrid CF and Real Madrid want to see their eternal captain recovered as soon as possible and send him all the courage of the world."

The 37-year-old is an undisputed legend in the sport, making his name at Real Madrid and rightfully being considered one of the greatest goalkeepers in history.

Casillas decided to leave his boyhood club in 2015 and has spent the following four seasons in Portugal, accumulating over 150 appearances.

More updates as they come and all our best wishes to Casillas and his family.
