Lionel Messi proved, once again, last night that he’s rather good at football. After a fairly anonymous 75 minutes, the Argentine superstar came alive to turn what looked a good result for Liverpool into a disastrous one.Liverpool had trailed after former striker Luis Suarez had poked the ball past Alisson to give Barca a 26th-minute lead. But then Messi came alive. His first was fortunate.

Suarez struck the bar with the ball falling onto Messi’s chest, allowing him to tap into an empty net.

But his second - and his 600th career goal for Barcelona - was just ridiculous.

When he lined up a 35-yard free-kick, nobody thought he could score against a goalkeeper like Alisson.

But then again, nobody was surprised when he stuck the ball right into the top corner to make it 3-0.

Unreal.

However, one journalist has spotted that Messi was pretty sneaky before taking his free-kick.

After Messi was blatantly blocked by Fabinho, Barca were given a free-kick.

The Liverpool man was booked and players from the home side surrounded referee Bjorn Kuipers clearly unhappy that their main man had just been treated like that.

Suarez even picked up a yellow card himself for his protests.

But in the meantime, Messi slyly moved the ball forward and more central. It was only a matter of inches, but it made all the difference.

It would still have been too far out for almost any other player, but Messi had moved the ball into the perfect position for him.

It’s all fine margins but would Messi have been able to score if he had taken the free-kick from where the foul took place? Probably not.
