For more than a decade, football fans have been comparing Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.Incredibly, the two superstars have now scored their 600th club goal within days of each other. They’ve also shared 10 Ballon d’Ors.They might just be the two greatest footballers to have ever played the game. But are you Team Messi or Team Ronaldo?

Instead of appreciating both, it seems you have to pick a side or else you’re not a proper football fan.

However, Mario Balotelli has now called on fans to stop comparing the two.

During Messi’s masterclass, Balotelli uploaded an Instagram story that read “For the love of football please do not compare him to the No.7 of Juventus anymore!”

Boom.

Balotelli was reacting to Messi’s match-winning performance as Barcelona beat Liverpool at the Camp Nou in their Champions League semi-final first leg.

Barca led 1-0 after Luis Suarez’s first-half strike.

But with 15 minutes, Messi came alive.

His first goal was fortuitous as Suarez’s effort hit the bar and landed perfectly for him to walk the ball into an empty net.

If his first was lucky, his second was outrageous.

A 35-yard free-kick against one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

The only way to beat Alisson was to stick it right in the top corner with power.

And that’s exactly what Messi did to perfection.

Unbelievable.

Cue football fans around the world waxing lyrical about how Messi is the greatest player ever.

And Balotelli joined in by attempting to settle the Messi/Ronaldo debate once and for all.
